We had the most amazing time - truly a fairly tale wedding - and we hope that you did as well. St. Lucia was wonderful and we're settling nicely into life after the honeymoon...checking out all the pictures, figuring out what to do with the dress (which is still in a bag on the bed!), unpacking presents and getting around to all the non-wedding-related things we put off in the weeks before the big event. But we promise to make time soon to post pictures and figure out what the future of this site will be. Until then, if you've got any great shots please share them!
The ceremony and reception will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2005 at the Angel Orensanz Foundation, 172 Norfolk Street, New York, NY 10012. It will begin at 4:30 sharp so please allow time for public transport, parking, etc.(map)
We have reserved a block of rooms for Saturday and Sunday at the Howard Johnson Express Inn SoHo, located at 135 East Houston Street (map). To book a room, call the direct number for the hotel at (212) 358-8844 and ask for the Morrissey-Zehner Wedding Block. The block rate of $175 per night for one queen bed, or $199 per night for two double beds, is available until September 8. The rooms here are not large but the hotel is within walking distance of Angel Orensanz, Kristine's and Rob's apartment and a multitude of shops and restaurants.
If you're looking for more luxurious accomodations, you might consider Hotel on Rivington, located three blocks from Angel Orensanz. This new boutique hotel features European-style rooms with stunning floor-to-ceiling views of the surrounding city.
Of course New York City offers a wide range of accommodations so if you have something different in mind please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you choose another location. Keep in mind that this is Columbus Day weekend - an actual holiday here in New York - so we strongly encourage that you reserve in advance.
New York City is served by three airports: John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia in Queens, and Newark Liberty in New Jersey. The best way into the city for small groups is by SuperShuttle, a shared van service that will take you directly to your destination for about $20 per person. A private taxi or car service will cost anywhere from $40 to $60 before tip and can be shared by up to four people. Shuttle bus services to various locations in Manhattan are also available at $10-$15 per person, but unless you are planning on staying at a large mid-town chain hotel you will need to take an additional taxi or subway to reach your destination.
New York City is not car friendly, but good public transportation abounds. Both Angel Orensanz and the HoJo are very close to the 2nd Avenue and Delancey Street stops on the F train, as well as the M21 bus stop. You can find maps, schedules and station information for New York City buses and subways at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) web page, www.mta.nyc.ny.us or at Straphangers.
From Penn Station, take the F or V train downtown to the Lower East Side/2nd Avenue stop. From Grand Central Station, take the 7 train west to the 42 Street/Bryant Park station, then transfer to the F or V train downtown to the Lower East Side/2nd Avenue stop. Cross to the south side of Houston Street and walk east to Norfolk Street. Turn right on Norfolk Street; the Angel Orensanz Foundation will be on your left.
From the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway or Gowanus Expressway, take the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel into Manhattan. Upon exiting the tunnel, bear left and follow the signs for the FDR Drive. Stay on the FDR Drive to Exit 5, Houston Street. Turn left at Essex Street/Avenue A (At this point, you will pass the Edison Park Fast lot on your right, if you wish to park the car.) Take the first left onto Stanton Street, then turn left on Norfolk Street. The Angel Orensanz Foundation will be on your right.
Take the New Jersey Turnpike to the Holland Tunnel. Upon exiting the tunnel, follow the traffic circle around to Exit 5, Canal Street East (it's almost full circle from where you come out of the tunnel). Turn left on Centre Street, which becomes Lafayette Street after about three blocks. Turn right on Houston Street. After passing Ludlow Street, you will pass the entrance to the Edison Park Fast lot on your right -- this is the closest parking lot to the ceremony. Turn right on Essex Street, then left on Stanton and left on Norfolk. The Angel Orensanz Foundation will be on your right after half a block.
Follow I-87 or the Bruckner Expressway south to the Triboro Bridge. At the bridge entrance, bear right to go to Manhattan. After the tolls, stay to the right to get on the FDR Drive south. Follow the FDR Drive to Exit 5, Houston Street. Turn left at Essex Street/Avenue A (At this point, you will pass the Edison Park Fast lot on your right, if you wish to park the car.) Take the first left onto Stanton Street, then turn left on Norfolk Street. The Angel Orensanz Foundation will be on your right.
If you must bring your car, we don't suggest looking for street parking unless you have experience - the regulations are complex. The closest lot to both the HoJo and Angel Orensanz is the Edison Park Fast on Houston Street between Ludlow and Essex Streets. Rates are in the neighborhood of $30 for up to 24 hours and $23 for noon to midnight on Sunday.
If you are bringing children into town we can recommend good babysitters to watch them during the wedding (and for any other times you might want to get out on your own!). Please contact us at the e-mail address below or give us a call for information.
Our good friends Randon Burns and Zohn Rosen will be hosting a Saturday night wine soiree in their apartments to kick off the celebration. It will be a great way for everyone to meet up and spend some time informal time together before the big day, particularly out-of-towners who just can't wait to get together! The festivities will run from around 7 to 9pm at 352 East 13th Street (between 1st and 2nd Avenues) in apartments 4 and 6. And if you're a bit peckish on arrival, don't fear...Gareth Hughes, founder and owner of DUB Pies, will generously be providing delicious meat pies for your snacking pleasure!
Depending on when you plan to arrive in New York and how long you plan to stay, there are a multitude of interesting things to do. No matter how much time you're planning on spending in the city, we recommend that you pick up a copy of Time Out New York. It's a great weekly magazine available at every newsstand you pass, filled with helpful listings for everything from restaurants and bars to museums, street fairs, cultural events and more.
If you are staying at the HoJo on Houston street, you're well situated to walk west through NoLita into SoHo for some of the nicest shopping around. Or stroll south into Little Italy and Chinatown for a snacking tour instead! If you'd prefer not to walk it on your own, you can join the crowd in one of the many Free Walking Tours that abound throughout NYC.
For those not inclined to do all their sightseeing on foot there are more bus, boat, ferry, helicopter and even chauffeured classic car tours than we can possibly list here. For more information you can begin at NYC Tourist. If you're interested in seeing some of New York's most beautiful harbor views without spending a lot of time or money, check out The Staten Island Ferry. The free ride is just over an hour round trip and you'll get to enjoy beautiful views of both the New York skyline and the Statue of Liberty. Plus, they sell snacks and beverages on the boat!
If you would like to see a Broadway show you can find out what will be playing and also purchase tickets at Broadway.com. If you're not the type to plan in advance, you can always get half price same-day tickets at TKTS in Times Square or the South Street Seaport. The selection and availability change daily, but the price is right.
